Commitee have been looking at and working on a computerised timing system for the club to purchase and get better more acurate results at events

Here is whats looking like the system to suit us

The recieving bit is to pick up the transponders attatched to our buggies

The send bit is to program the transponders set up codes in each tag (transponder correct term but im lazy)

An areial /antenna is fed into the decoder box
What we want is a wire loop suspended above the track at start/finish line which picks up the tag signal as the buggy passes under the antenna
The wire antenna runs into a termination box and a coax cable is then run out the antenna box (cigarette packet size)to the decoder box

A laptop is then plugged into the decoder box software loaded and were all set
Software allows us to programe each tag with a buggy race number a name colour engine size anything we want really

Laps recorded by lap times number of laps and from ther can bring up fastest lap slowest lap etc of all buggies pushbikes mopeds whatever we put our tags on

The transponders
We need active transponders (Tags) that is they are battery powered
as these send out a continious signal

Now accuracy
they can time laps to 0.001 of a sec can detect 200 tags in 1 sec
That would be something to see 200 buggys crossing the line within 1 sec

Just looking at a basic 1 antenna system for us
A trap if ya like set up at the start /finish line

More elaborate setups have up to 8 or more antennas placed around the raceway to give split times = more set up time and cost we dont need that shit

Investigations have now gone direct to China, in the attemp to get The cheapst option and best system for our needs

What is also needed will be a Dedicated Laptop for this system to operate
Has been sugested to ask if anyone has a old laptop they no longer need or want that could be donated to the club or purchased at a reasonable cost for this task
This will become a club owned piece of equipment

If you have something let us know before we go pricing this into the system before its purchased
As without a laptop all this flash whiz bag timing system is gunna be useless

Well finally got over having a break from the Cudawasaki and am all enthused already so got stuck into pulling the Ass pain air cleaner of which after an 1-1/2hr got my hands on the Carbs, pulled them off!

Guess what we found???????????????? Water. yep each bowl had around 20-30% water in the bottom. No water in the fuel tank though??
We also found at the track last meeting, the fuel cap wasn't breathing, & the fuel filter was chockers of dirt and rubber?.

We also noticed the tank doesn't have a breather (I know go figure?) it relies on the tank cap
 IMG_0586a.jpg (Size: 250.7 KB / Downloads: 0)
& the fuel line Dick that goes into the bottom of the tank is flush with the very base of the tank which means dirt and or water if in there would flow straight into the fuel line!!!

As if I didn't have anything else to do, I'm going to pull the fuel pumps off as well and clean them out.

Another issue was the Power steering, it also finally packed it in after 2 meetings of it working and not working so pulled that out as well.
We think it was all a part of conspiracy from the gods above to create all these problems at once so all you other Buggers could have a fare run.

I'm going to buy another 2nd hand power steering unit from Melnoune at this stage & have asked if he has any more, If any ones interested I will grab them and we can go shareses in the freight.

Hello Wise Men of the Buggies,
I need help!
I bent an upper ball joint at tumble gum & stripped the thread on a tie rod at the Northam event after that.
The Chinese 1300cc 2seater is holding together quite well considering the pounding I have given it, but these ball joints & tie rods are soft & could be engineered better.
I took Chris's (White Dragon) advise & looked for a 4WD alternative ball joint. The closest I could find to match was Hilux. Looks strong & would fit but it has unusual thread size (21mm with 1.5 thread and to make it worse, left handed thread). I need two large nuts to hold each Hilux ball joints in place but none of the nut suppliers can supply this size.
Does anyone know where I can get these nuts?
Or, does anyone know anywhere I can get 8 of these nuts made?
Or, can someone come up with another solution?
I could get some replacements from the factory but they will be poorly engineered & softer metal & I will continue to bend them.
My buggy is not able to be used until I get these minor issues sorted out.
I have it at work (Action RV, 25 William St, Beckenham) if anyone wants to drop in for a look & can give me some direction.
Cheers, Fugly.

This is not CNC technology; this guy made everything at home on his lathe and drill press.
Took 1220 hours (a year and a half?) to make the 261 pieces.
Note the end-loaded crankshaft into the block (like an Offy), 12 individual cylinder heads, TINY rods and pistons, dual "underhead" cams with push-rods to rockers in the heads. And, he did break-in using an electric drill driving the crankshaft!

So the Narrogin Chase was what the WA Offroad Association calls a Short Course Event. The track is 12km long and the event was run in 3 sections of 4 laps each.

We drove down Friday Arvo in constant drizzle and we were looking forward to a nice damp track to keep the dust away, unfortunately, that drizzle turned into rain and it was still raining the next morning….

We had to go out for recon at 8.00Am and I wanted to do it in the Goose as there was to be no prologue to get a feel for the track and I wanted to at least have a look at it from the seat of the race car. The rain didn’t look like easing anytime soon so I headed out anyway, wow, what a revelation, couldn’t see anything with the visor down and with the visor up the rain came straight in trying to wash your eyeballs out, this was going to be messy.

There was water over the whole track and in some places quiet deep and the ground was turning to slush, there was even a creek to cross! Other than the wet conditions the track was a pearler, not many long straights and the corners quite open and fast for most of it with only a couple of tight rocky sections to negotiate, real shame it was pissing down. I managed to get around without getting stuck in the mud and came back to the pits very wet and without a whole lot of enthusiasm for the upcoming race.

Luckily, the organisers delayed the start by half an hour, the rain stopped and the sun came out just in time for the start. Originally we were going to do side by side starts, but they changed that to single car starts and I was to line up behind Jason’s Hilux as the 2nd position starter didn’t show. We were to start 15 seconds apart and I was a bit worried about George in his V6 Prolite catching up and mowing me down

Eventually Jason took off and I was close behind, the track had certainly improved now the rain had stopped and I found that I actually had some grip, although not too much! Not to worry though as within a couple of corners I had caught up to Jason, and he had way less grip than me judging by the wildly fishtailing Hilux. I wanted to get past but I couldn’t decide which side to go as he was certainly getting his moneys worth using up all the track so I hung back for the next couple of corners and then when we got to a downhill section with a bit of grass, I snuck around the outside and passed him going into the corner.

Now that I was in the lead I wanted to put as much time between me and anyone behind me as I could so I got going at a decent speed without being too out of control and opened up a bit of a gap. The track was still very wet and was sucking the power out of my little engine, but I managed to churn my way through the slop whilst trying to keep it in a straight line. Some of the grassier sections I could get some traction and I saw 150 on the speedo a couple of times, so still going pretty quick.

I kept at it and finally came up to that little creek crossing, unfortunately it had now risen quite a bit and I hit it too fast and got showered in cold water for my trouble. Soon after that my gearbox trouble started and I found I couldn’t select fourth, not to worry, I still had a box full to play with. Unfortunately it only got worse and I struggled around missing third and fourth. At one stage I could only get first and second and did the complete lap like that, was like driving an automatic and I could still pull 110 k’s !!

Finally after three and three quarter laps, just after I had caught and passed Kiera and Stewie in the Performance 2WD Mazda I felt something give when I downshifted from fifth to second and then a horrible noise soon after that meant I was out for the duration….
